The Morris & Morris Pets
Meet Abba & Daisy, The Morris & Morris Loyal Fur Friends
At Morris & Morris we believe pets have a special place in this world and love having two furry friends with us every day. They not only help our staff after a tough day, but they help families of people we care for even if only for a short moment in time.
When you have a pet to love, you welcome these fur-friends into your home & they soon become an important member of the family. Pets lift our heads and fill our hearts with the kind of love that few others can. They offer unconditional love & are always greeting us with a warm welcome when we come through the front door after a long day.
How do pets help you grieve:
- Unconditional Love and Companionship:Pets offer a deep, unwavering connection, providing comfort when you feel isolated and alone during the grieving process.
- Non-Judgmental Presence:Your pet won’t ask questions or demand emotional responses, offering a safe space to express your feelings, whether you need to cry, talk, or simply sit in silence.
- Sense of Purpose and Routine:Caring for a pet provides a daily structure and a reason to get out of bed, which can be incredibly helpful when grief feels overwhelming.
- Physical and Emotional Well-being:Interacting with a pet can increase levels of beneficial hormones like oxytocin and decrease stress hormones like cortisol.
- Positive Distraction and Reflection:Engaging in play or exercise with your pet can provide happy distractions from the pain of grief and offer moments of reflection in a supportive, peaceful environment.
- Increased Activity:The need to walk and care for a pet encourages physical activity, which releases mood-lifting endorphins and serotonin.
- Social Facilitation:Pets can act as social catalysts, encouraging you to interact with other people and strengthening your social connections when you might otherwise feel withdrawn.
ABBA
"A dog is the only thing on earth that loves you more than he loves himself"
This is true with Abba who was adopted when she was the young age of 9 in 2024 by our General Manager Paul and has never left his side since.
She rides shotgun in his car and is his designated foot warmer at Daisy’s morning meeting, a true loyal companion with the biggest heart.
During the day she is often found in Paul’s office or curled up with someone on the staff room couch awaiting cuddles and attention.
Although she goes home at night, she is part of our team every day making sure our drawers are always full of treats. She is 100% deaf so she does rely on her group of humans to keep her safe while out walking them each day.
DAISY
In ancient times cats were worshipped as gods; and Daisy has not forgotten this, surrounding herself with two legged servants every day.
Daisy joined her team at Morris & Morris Funerals in 2021 from Bay of Islands Animal Rescue. She was approximately 1 year old and brings a lot of laughs, comfort and white cat glitter everywhere she goes.
In the mornings she likes to explore the garden with her security guard humans that make sure she comes back inside just in time for her to race to join her humans’ morning meeting making sure she’s the main topic of the day.
You can often find her sunning herself by a window, leaving a surprise blanket of fur on someone’s chair, and sometimes even chasing birds and squirrels on a computer screen.
She is a food lover, and your lunch isn’t safe if left unattended or attended around her. Daisy provides a lot of comfort at a time when people need it and seems to know who needs a little extra attention that day.
