Obituary
BOWDEN, Dr Katharine Helen Campbell MNZM. Manaaki whenua, manaaki tangata, haere whakamua Care for the land, care for the people, go forward. Katharine passed away peacefully on 1 June 2022 aged 93 years, surrounded by her family. Katharine was the much loved wife of Bernard, and mother of Tom, Helen, Judy, Guy, Roger and Clare, together with their partners. She was the cherished Granny to her tribe of 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren who will miss her dearly. An honorary citizen of the Cook Islands nation, pioneering doctor and medical advocate, farmer, conservationist, scrabble player, and avid reader. Katharine had a keen interest in everyone and everything. A private cremation has been held in accordance with Katharine’s wishes. A celebration of her life will take place in the summer of 2022 at Te Whanau o Rangiwhaakahu marae in Matapouri, with the date to be announced. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations in support of the important work undertaken by Katharine’s former place of work, Family Planning New Zealand.
